STUDIES, PROJECTS AND OPERATIONS
Project Background
In 2021, a major gold company embarked on a due diligence program to investigate the potential of a number of undeveloped deposits, operating mines and operations in care-and-maintenance. Chemech were engaged to perform the metallurgical and mineral processing component of their due diligence process.
Chemech's Contribution
Chemech conducted 16 metallurgy and mineral processing due diligence assessments on studies and projects for gold, copper, base metals (Pb/Zn) and poly metallic (Ni/Co) deposits. Chemech utilised its expertise in all aspects of metallurgy and mineral processing plant design to assess:
-
Whether metallurgical samples were suitably representative of the orebodies, including the variability of grade, lithology and ore properties.
-
Whether the testwork program suitably characterised the metallurgical response of the ore and optimised the flowsheet and conditions.
-
Whether the process plant design reflected the testwork outcomes and reflected acceptable criteria for production, environmental and safety performance.
-
Whether capital and operating cost estimates were supported by an appropriate level of engineering and were generated with sufficient accuracy.
-
Whether key assumptions underpinning revenue (e.g. recovery, concentrate grade) were supported by appropriate test results and whether the process plant would achieve them reliably.
In 2022, the company purchased a significant mineral asset based on successful due diligence.
